Weekend Getaway – Ogunquit Maine!

Ogunquit, Maine

Every once in a while, you need an escape; a break from the daily grind and a reward for all of your hard work. Weekend escapes are a beautiful thing. Pick someplace that you can get to in under a few hours, cut out of work a bit early on a Friday and come back to reality mid-Sunday.

What makes a great weekend destination for me?

  • Downtown area, check.
  • Beachfront, check.
  • Great food, check.
  • Lively nightlife, check.
  • Everything within walking distance, check.

Those are a few of the components that originally drew me to Ogunquit. My fiancé and I had been going here for years, but only for a few hours at a time. We had never spent the night, and didn’t know what we were missing! We hadn’t done a weekend getaway in about a year, nor had we taken an extended vacation. We were both really burnt out and absolutely needed it! I cannot stress enough the importance of disconnecting. Taking the time to rejuvenate yourself will do wonders for you during the week. Find what makes a great destination for you, pick a place and go!

5 Ways to Jumpstart Your Day

  • Put your alarm clock across the room – If whatever device sounds the alarm to wake you up in the morning is within arm’s reach, the snooze button is inevitable. I like to keep my phone on the dresser in front of my bed. This way, I need to physically get up to turn off the alarm. Take it a step further and set another alarm just outside of your bedroom door for one minute later!
  • Have a glass of lemon-water waiting for you on the counter – Before you head to bed the night before, fill a glass with water and a wedge of lemon to leave on your counter. You can refrigerate it if you prefer, but for me room temperature water goes down quicker. I’m also more likely to drink it if I see it sitting there instead of putting it out of sight.
  • Take a cold shower, or a cold blast at the end of a hot shower – I look forward to a nice warm shower as much as the next person, but there is something about a cold blast of water that jolts you right awake. I’ve found that this makes it easier to get out of the shower and not feel frigid, gives me a blast of adrenaline and wakes me up when I need it most.
  • Embrace your mood – If you’re dragging and feeling slow, pop on a more relaxed, slowed down album on the way to work. If I don’t fight my mood and try and snap myself out of something, I’m better off. Embrace it, you’ll spend less time focused on breaking out of your funk and more time grinding through the day.
  • Eat! – So often I’ve seen folks sitting at their desk all day. Working through lunch, working for hours and hours at a time. You’re body needs a break, and your body needs energy! Make it a point to bring some snacks and a lunch, and try to snack every hour or couple of hours! Your energy level will stay higher, as will your metabolism.
